Ready.... ish.

Packing mostly complete. I just need to pack my backpack which I will carry on with me. I hope my suitcase is within the weight limits because it's pretty heavy. Part of me worries that once I get there I'll wonder why I packed so much (but really, one (large) suitcase and one backpack doesn't seem like overkill... When I went to El Salvador some of my peers brought two suitcases/duffle bags for a week!) but then again I don't want to be underprepared. I have to admit, I almost forgot socks and underwear. What a disaster that would have been. Let me tell you, planning ahead for two months worth of outfits is certainly a fashion challenge!

A fashion challenge, you scoff? Let me correct you, dear reader. I will be in a foreign country with a different climate and different cultural views on what is appropriate. It's tropical and their rainy season with an average temperature in the 70s. Though the internet also tells me that July and August are a "dry spell" in the rainy season. I'm mostly going to school, but I've signed up for field trips, and I believe two of them are overnight (Camping? yeesh...). I'm taking a photography elective and who knows where we'll be trekking for that. There might be some fancy event that implies the need for fancy-ish clothes. Like if there's a school banquet or my Catholic host family insists I attend mass (which I might not mind because I could overlook the meaning of the words while just trying to figure out what is being said). Plus I want to go exploring San Jose and hiking. All these different types of event require different types of wardrobes!

Interesting language/culture tidbit:
In the United States, generally June, July and August are considered the summer months (el verano). But in Costa Rica, el verano occurs when the weather is most dry, usually December-April, which in the US is usually el invierno (winter). May-November is the rainy season in Costa Rica or el invierno. Note that Costa Rica is north of the Equator.

Blog complete!

Well the easy part is done. Blog is complete and pretty!

The other night I dreamed I lost my passport and didn't have enough money. I verified that I do indeed have my passport (whew!) and my finances are in great shape.

The description I wrote says that this blog will be in Spanish sometimes. My blog posts will not be written out in both languages, but I do want to try and practice my writing as much as possible. Nothing I write in either language will be secret (this is a blog, duh) and I don't think my Spanish is anywhere near advanced enough to stump your average online translator.

If you'd like a postcard (and they're not to expensive) send me your address and I'll do my best.

Si yo cometo errores y tú hablas español, por favor, ayudame y hacer correciónes en el sección de commentarios. También, si quieres una tarjeta postal en español, enviame tu dirección y te enviaré una tarjeta postal. ¡Será divertido!
